Torbjørn Kvasbø was Professor of Ceramics at the University of Gothenburg and, later, at Konstfack, Sweden. Since 2018, he has served as the President of the International Academy of Ceramics. He lives and works in Venabygd, Norway. In this illustrated lecture, he will discuss his recent installation work, Cluster of Vases, made for the Gyeonggi International Ceramics Biennale 2019.

Lin Cheung is Reader in Jewellery at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Lin will discuss her distinctive approach to making, which offers a witty and poignant response to the human condition. Jonathan Keep is an independent practising artist potter and a leading exponent of studio based ceramic 3D printing. His ceramics are recognizable for a strong sculptural quality and emphasis on form. The shapes of his pots are generated in computer code. He has developed this working process out of an interest in the way computer code can mimic natural codes, patterns and growth structures. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, London he lives in Suffolk UK and exhibits, lectures and undertakes artist residencies and workshops internationally. Jonathan initiated the widely popular ‘Make Your Own Ceramic 3D Printer’ project.

Dr David Cushway has a desire (and willingness) to experiment with and test the medium(s) of clay. This has led to a practice that employs sculpture, installation, film, photography, performance, socially engaged practice and drawing. The practical element of his PhD study deliberately set out to test the boundaries of ceramics discourse, through film and photography, with the absence of clay and the ceramic object being a fundamental motivation and consideration of the research. In this talk he will give us an insight to his practice.

Judith Schaechter has worked in stained glass for 35 years since graduating from Rhode Island School of Design. Her work is collected internationally and is represented in such museums as The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian. Judith's work was included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, a collateral exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2012 and she is a 2008 USA Artists Rockefeller Fellow. In 2013 Judith was inducted to the American Craft Council College of Fellows.

Samar Mogharbel is an International artist who works primarily and uniquely with clay. She was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1958 and has spent her childhood and adult life under consecutive bombings due to war, civil war and various invasions. She responds to her heritage by excavating the political, archaeological and anthropological impact of destruction through the fragile medium of clay. She is a graduate of Goldsmiths London, a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and lectures at the American University in Beirut. She has also made a series of stop motion animations since 2004 which can be viewed on Youtube.

German artist Sibylle Peretti creates multimedia collages and sculptures which explore the relationship between time, loss, emotion, memory and solitude, often depicting liminal landscapes where her protagonists – people & animals - retreat. Peretti’s work balances the nostalgia of impending loss – societal or environmental - with the profound fortitude of understanding ourselves and the world.

She is the recipient of Grants from the Joan Mitchell and the Pollock- Krasner Foundation New York and was awarded an United States Artist fellowship in 2012.

​
