PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS – CRAFTed SUMMER CPD BOOKING OPENED
CRAFTed – Approaching the Curriculum through Creativity is the Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s accredited summer CPD visual art course for primary school teachers.
Hands-on course with professional craftspeople and designers bespoke for primary school teachers, online for 2021 via Zoom, with small group sizes. Course leaders will share their years of CRAFTed experience, professional processes and skills with age and curriculum appropriate visual art ideas. Explore a different visual art curriculum strand daily.
Planning and designing craft & design-based class projects, through themes, materials and skills that support an integrated process-led approach to the curriculum. Hands-on exploration of drawing, painting, fabric & fibre, printmaking, clay and construction through self-reflective practice. The course offers confidence building and an opportunity for the teacher to explore their own creativity whilst being mindful of transferable skills to the classroom and across age ranges. This course is run by professional craftspeople and designers in collaboration with the Design & Crafts Council Ireland and based on 10 years’ experience in Irish classrooms through CRAFTed.

CRAFTed 2021

In response to the current health emergency the Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) CRAFTed programme will take a break from the classroom for 2021. However, we still wish to continue the positive engagement with primary school teachers and students throughout Ireland with two new exciting offerings for 2021.
CRAFTed Online Education Resource Bank
CRAFTed Hands-on workshops for Primary School Teachers
CRAFTed Online Education Resource Bank
We will use this time to create a CRAFTed - Online Education Resource Bank that primary school teachers and students throughout Ireland can engage with safely in the classroom and at home via our website.
A call has gone out to the Design & Crafts Council Ireland Education Panel who have worked on CRAFTed for many years asking for proposals for craft and design-based learning resource ideas, that the Design & Crafts Council Ireland will then commission to be made. We are working with a panel of primary school teachers to ensure these resources are what teachers need to support the delivery of the Visual Arts Curriculum in Irish classrooms. The resources will explore not only the techniques and materials craftspeople and designers use but also give insights into where in Ireland they work, what inspires them and a peek into their studios. We are really excited to work on this project and know it will be a very useful and engaging bank of education resources for Irish primary school teachers for years to come.
